Situation in our country

The suicide rate in Serbia in 2015 was 15.0 (number of suicides per 100,000 people), and is higher than the European average of 13.8.

Vojvodina has been for many years a region with extremely high suicide rates, with the highest values in the early nineties, a period of great economic crisis in the country. In 1993, the suicide rate in Vojvodina was 34.3. During the year 2015 the rate was the lowest in last 15 years, with value 18.9.

The table presented in suicide rates from 2006 to 2015 in Serbia. Origin: Republic Institute for Statistics.

While the reduction in the suicide rates in Serbia is encouraging, it does not mean that the problem has become less acute. The fact that the rate is still significantly above the European average, is suggesting the need for prevention programs implemented in all possible aspects.
